Band Saw
Ear and Eye Protection Strongly Recommended!
CAUTION: This is an advanced tool that can be highly dangerous if used incorrectly. If you are not familiar with the Band Saw, we recommend you try a manual coping saw instead.
The band saw makes small, smooth cuts and can be used for cabinetry, furniture making or decorative molding. A band saw is ideal for making curved and irregular cuts or for cross-cutting smaller pieces. Band saws can cut a wide variety of materials including wood, metal and plastic.
Prepare Before Use
Clean the blade and interior saw cabinet.
Check that the blade is correct for your material, or replace it.
Tool library blades are usually general-purpose wood cutting blades. You may have to purchase a specialized blade for your project.
Thinner blades are a used for more detailed cuts
Different teeth counts are used for different materials.
Set the blade tension.
Set the blade guide and blade guard 1/8” above your workpiece.
Set the tabletop to your desired angle.
Most cuts will be made at a zero degree angle, but check the miter gauge for accurate settings before beginning.
Tool Tips
Keep fingers at least 3 inches from the saw.
Do not pull the blade sideways or parallel to the cut.
After Use
Clean the blade and saw cabinet fully.
Lower the blade tension slightly for storage.
